Dulture weekly mix
I saw this AI app thing this week where it lives on your phone and you just tell it the app you’re thinking about and it builds it for you. At first I was like, this is cool, and then the more I thought about it the more I realized we actually want our apps given to us, we don’t want to have to think about them.
We just want to be told what to do and how to do it.
This week I’m going ahead and just deciding where the mix should start. When you click into the video below, just know that I did that, I chose where the music started. Ur welcome.
My first basketball jersey ever was a size 40 Champion Scottie Pippen jersey.

Every year we would drive from Toronto to Buffalo for back to school shoe shopping because the US had a much better selection of shoes in the 90’s and early 2000’s.
And every year, from the AJ5’s all the way to the AJ8’s, my brother would get the newest pair of J’s. Being 5 years older, he became the default “MJ” in the house and I was relegated to Pippen.
Which I’m not mad at - I fell in love with the Flight branding and wore these with pride.

Nike Air Flight Lite - Pippen didn’t wear these much, he wore the similar “Mid” silhouette
For a while I followed whatever shoe Pippen wore on the court, mainly the Air Pippen 1’s and the Air Pippen 2’s.
I never got into the Air More UpTempo 96’s, just thought it was weird to have the word AIR covering the side of the shoe 🤷♂
Shoes aside, over the years Scottie has gone from MJ’s right hand man to a collection of really random hot takes.
Is Michael the GOAT? Is LeBron the GOAT? Is HE the GOAT?
These days Scottie is heavy into his Game5Ball crypto project.

There’s also a lot of reliving of older moments from his socials online.
Which I guess why it makes sense that he’s auctioning off a bunch of his old stuff he’s collected through the years.
The thing is, this collection is LEGIT.
Jordan’s Dream Team AJ6’s SIGNED

His ‘Flu Game’ jersey

Basically the same one I have above
A bunch of trophies like his 1994 All-Star MVP trophy

And there’s a bunch of other great relics in the auction. Apparently the full collection should fetch somewhere around $6M.
Everything is listed here but peep what Scottie has hoarded through the years - this might just be one of the best basketball collection of “stuff” you’ll ever see.
Jimmy Moves, Jimmy Declines
I haven’t covered the show here (yet) but…
Are you watching Beast Games S2?
I’m waiting until the show is over to give a comprehensive review. Then I’ll pour my heart out to all of you.
But did y’all see the latest move MrBeast aka Jimmy Donaldson, aka Mr ‘I have no money’ just made?

Earlier this week Jimmy announced the acquisition of Step, a mobile banking app for Gen Z.
The app has around 7M users at the moment and is your typical banking app that helps you save money, invest, and build credit - all geared towards younger people looking for their first financial services experience.

What is MrBeast doing buying a banking app?
Diversifying his business of course.
Beast Industries, the holdco to all of Jimmy’s endeavours, is slowly making moves that have nothing to do with making YouTube videos.
Although you better believe you’re going to see ‘money this, banking that’, in the next tranche of MrBeast content.
The thing is, are we still going to continue to care about his videos? If you follow any of his content, you might already start to see repetition in the ideas and videos. And it’s not to say it isn’t entertaining, buuuuut I’m now wondering how many young people vs old people videos do I care to watch.
So I started getting this feeling after last week’s episode of Beast Games and thought, maybe it’s just me, maybe I watch too much.
Nope.

Big numbers aside, these are the first signs that the MrBeast content engine may not be as strong as it once was and that viewers are starting to move on.
The thing is, Jimmy has built the channel up to a godly size that even if viewership goes down, he’ll still be considered an above average YouTuber. And given Feastibles essentially floats the entire operation at this point, don’t be surprised if other business ventures get funnelled in the mix in the near future to further pad these declining YouTube stats.
MrBeast will lose the biggest YouTuber title at some point but not before his businesses scoop up as much as they can.
The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Obviously we need to talk about NBA All-Star game…and the impending f*ckery that is NBA All-Star weekend.
Every year I pray to the basketball gods to just give us something fun to watch and every year (since 2016 - shout out Kobe’s last game + the best dunk off since VC) we get basketball slop.
So what do we have this year, Adam Silver?

An interview from June last year.
Oh, okay. Then what are we watching Sunday night?

So just like last year, they’re doing the little tournament thing again. Y’all remember how LONG the breaks were between games last year? Surely they’ve learned their lesson right?
Just like how they learned their lesson … OVER AND OVER … about how bad the dunk competition is?
Nah, let’s just throw these randos in the mix and get them to dunk (I apologize if they play for your team but not like you’d recognize any subs on the Raptors!)

I’m that guy who just keeps getting burned, in hopes that next year will be better. And then throws his TV remote after Kenny Anderson once again says the dunk competition needs better participants.
The 3 pt shooting competition has become WAY more exciting over the years because the BEST 3 pt shooters actually show up.
They’ve also brought back the Shoot Stars competition, the thing where they make a team of 3 and everyone tries shooting from spots on court for points:

My expectations are so low that a win for me at this point is NOT having Kevin Hart be the guest emcee.

Not Valentine’s Day Movies
Will we ever get a conclusive answer to this question:
Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?
I personally think it might be? I mean, what defines a holiday movie anyway?
Do the characters need to be surrounded by the holiday the whole time, does it need to be a major theme in the movie? Or can it just exist as the holiday exists and people go abouts their business blowing buildings up.

I think the same can be said about Valentine’s Day.
Just deciding to celebrate it is already a whole other conversation altogether…let alone HOW you celebrate.

We eat Pizza Hut once a year.
Pizza aside, there’s a lot of great movies that have come out through the years around V-Day.
Maybe you need something to watch but don’t want all the pink hearts and candy lovey-dovey stuff.
I got you ❤
Deadpool (2016)

Released on February 12, 2016, Deadpool was a great watch for any Valentine’s date. In fact, dare I say this might just be the best film Marvel has ever put out?? GASP.
The film is full of funny bits with Ryan Reynolds continuing to break the 4th wall as he tells us (the audience) the ironies of what’s going on in the film. The action sequences are well thought out and creative, and the plot hinges on a love story, so there’s yer V-Day. I think my wife actually liked this too, at least I don’t remember her falling asleep in the theatre?
Silence of the Lambs (1991)

This Valentine’s Day it will be the 35th anniversary of the Silence of the Lambs. Imagine going on a first date to watch this when it came out on VDay in 1991? Either you guys are still together to this day and continue to watch messed up movies together or you scared each other away a long time ago.
Anthony Hopkins is an amazing, AMAZING actor. If you need a good film this Valentine’s Day, this is actually right up there with anything else I can think of. Oh and the film is about an FBI agent trying to solve a case and they all think Hannibal Lecter can help solve it - the guy who eats people blah blah blah - it’s really good though!
Hitch (2005)

For the last one, why not something super easy and light like a movie where Will Smith plays a love guru and ends up fumbling through love himself. This one came out around Valentine’s Day in 2005 so I guess it doesn’t exactly follow the theme of “not Valentine’s Day movies”.
But I figured, I’ve given you two violent/creepy films, if you reeeeeally want something fluffy and simple, Hitch is definitely a good one. Don’t expect much from a Will Smith rom-com but then again, don’t expect much from any rom-com 😏
I just said it’s definitely good and then said don’t expect much…that makes sense right? C’mon, it’s a Will Smith movie!
kthxbye.
