Dulture weekly mix
I didn’t really want to move on from last week’s playlist, that Destiny’s Child track with Wyclef really slapped. But alas all good things come to an end so that new good things can start.
This week’s list is a bunch of recos from my end, a tad bit more diverse sound for your ears.
Let’s blow this list up - just hit the follow button on Spotify wherever that is. If all of you followed it we’d have something special…well it’s already special but it would be even more special. I don’t know - enjoy the music tho!
I just can’t help myself man.
It’s like that girl (or boy...what up ladies?) back in high school that you had a huge crush on that you know you shouldn’t be so obsessive about.
But f*ck it, the little dopamine hits they give you is enough to keep coming back for more.

I really should just start a side publication on all things Japan…
But honestly.
What do you want me to do??
This looks so damn cool.

For all you unobsessed (read: normal) people out there , Wieden + Kennedy coined the term “Just Do It” back in the 80’s and we’re responsible for the creative behind all those classic Nike commercials, they’re pretty important in the story of Nike.
So yes, this archives event is right up there with any sneaker / streetwear lore you could ever want.
The event/archive/collection will consist of historical pieces from the 90s/2000s from 4 areas :
ACG

Futuristic design

Restored shoes

And hand drawn tees.

More brands should do this, like, why wouldn’t you?
Archive events like this really make you appreciate the brand even more. They’re like a reminder of who the brand really is...or really was.
Anyone wanna help fly me out yesterday so I can arrive on time go cover this event?
If you’re in Tokyo you should go, seems like it’ll be a lot of fun and it’s FREE.
OK no more Japan content for a least a week now...dawg you should see my IG reel algo, it’s like they brainwashed me or something.
This Ain’t Pokemon Snap
I always thought the photograph buttons were pointless on PS and Switch controllers - I’m using them to play, why do I need photos??
As a kid I was so stoked for Pokemon Snap to come out because it was the first 3D Pokemon game and they were living in the wild.
Then you spend 10 mins riding around in a car taking pictures of wild Lapras’ and you’re like, wtf am I doing with my life.
So when I heard there was a guy who spent 12 hours scouting rail road tracks in Red Dead Redemption 2, I started to wonder who’s life should I be questioning?
Dude took 11 photos from the game and photoshopped them together to win the environment category in the Virtual Photography Awards.

Yes....there is an award celebration for virtual photography. People legit spend their time in video games taking photos of things.
NGL tho, some of this stuff is frigging amazing. Clearly I gotta expand my horizons beyond Smash Bros.

Ghost of Tsushima - Photo: Harry G (who also won virtual photographer of the year in 2025)
Harry G also has an extensive collection from Elden Ring, which makes perfect sense to me because F*CK PLAYING THAT GAME.

Pretty cool capture of presumably a boss sequence...I wouldn’t know, hardest mf-ing game ever.

Alan Wake 2 - Photo: Ludovic Helme (so cool looking)
So yeah, in case you needed another reason to play video games, go take some photos.
Years of Tiny Desk’s
Whenever I watch a Tiny Desk performance I think back to when I worked in the corporate world and all that time spent at my bland desk doing my bland work.
Because of how mundane the job was any time we had a chance to wild out you best believe we did - Halloween’s were crazy.
Like the time a full section of the office turned into Mario World.

Or when our whole leadership team turned into US politicians (even though...we’re Canadian?)

The secret illluminati had
This past week Cardi B did her Tiny Desk performance. Firstly, it was suprisingly good. I had no frame of reference to how she performs so I was impressed.
It’s just crazy to me that these big artists and musicians show up in the NPR office, modified band and all and just put on a show in basically a cubicle.
And these performances do numbers!

Due Lipa’s is the most viewed but it also took place “at home” during the middle of Covid when we were all glued to YouTube.

Mac Miller has the highest viewed performance in the office, sadly he’d pass away only a month after performing at the NPR office.

Anderson Paak is nuts on the drums in the 3rd most watched Tiny Desk ever. Reminds me of that thing where you have to rub your belly in a circle with one hand while you try to pat the top of your head.
My all time favourite is Tyler the Creator’s set, I think he takes advantage of the format better than any other artist has ever done a Tiny Desk performance.
You can tell he was looking forward to this by the lighting, the band, the back up vocals, his rapping delivery - chef’s mf-ing kiss!
Dope Drop Alert!
It’s the 30th anniversary of original release of Parappa the Rappa.
If you don’t know who/what I’m talking about then that’s it for the week, have a great weekend!
Parappa was ahead of its time, paving the way for other rhythm games like the Guitar Hero’s of the world.
Also where else could you battle rap an onion head sensei.

Wind and Sea, based out of Tokyo (whatever!) has a drop coming out today at midnight EST.
And it’s a whole frikken Parappa the Rappa collab, alongside audio company Technics. Wind and Sea’s brand is known for their 90’s streetwear aesthetic...they’re also known for selling out immediately when they do a drop.
This particular drop is going to be a lottery system - not entirely sure how it’ll work but I’ll be on their site at midnight trying to scoop anything I can.
Also it’s Japanese sizing so you’re safer to size up one size if you like your clothing a bit looser.
